We take our boat from the dock on the shores of Lake Tagua Tagua, to cross it for 30 minutes to the Maldonado sector, going up the dunes of the Puelo River, to Jabalí Island, where our quarter mile mestizos/Chileans await us. Put on your Gaucho Chaparreras and poncho, to ride for approximately two hours through native forest along the banks of the Puelo River until reaching a magical beach in La Junta. Enjoy lunch at a local’s house with the customs of the area and the local cuisine. There you can enjoy swimming with your horse in the river.

You have two return options:

  • We will return on horseback to Jabalí Island to return by boat and live an exciting 30-minute experience going down the river between rapids and bodies of water and continue along Lake Tagua Tagua until reaching the lodge.
  • We will return by boat from the beach in La Junta. We will sail for about 45 minutes. In our jet viper boat, crossing the Puelo River until we
    reach the lodge.

This activity takes place at Barraco waterfall, after a 10-minute walk from the lodge. We follow the trail along the east bank of the Barraco River to cross it and a short but steep climb takes us to the top of the waterfall. Our guide will help us with safety equipment (harness, gloves, shoes and wet suit if necessary).

At the top of the waterfall there is a second waterfall with a nice pool for swimming. Once our guide has conducted the briefing for rappelling and secured the attachment point and cable, we begin to descend the waterfall of about 40 meters high. At the end we stop at a platform
that is connected to the hike in case we want to repeat it. Also, at the bottom of the waterfall, there is a nice pool for swimming.

We take the first ferry in the morning in Puerto Canelo. We continue from Puerto Maldonado in our 4X4 truck to the Rio Frio at the mouth of the Rio Manso.

Our Cataraft and guide are ready to start the float on this river with calm and clear waters. We start fishing for rainbow trout and various other species. As we go downstream we will stop for lunch on the riverbank. Time to enjoy a meal prepared by our chef with Chilean wines, beers and soft drinks.

After this break we continue downriver, casting through bays and pristine places until we reach our final destination, Mrs. Oco’s house where our 4X4 will be waiting for us to return to the lodge where a pot roast or lamb is waiting for us. Later we can relax in our hot tub.

We begin by going down the Puelo River in our double cataraft with a guide in the Barraco current. We go down through good fishing spots, first Lake Victoria surrounded by lush nature.

Then we go through the Botapiedras River to the grade three rapid jump. You will have the opportunity to fish brown and rainbow trout as well as salmon in these crystal clear waters.

We stop at midday to enjoy a well-deserved lunch on the banks of the turquoise river.

In the afternoon we will relax in our hot tubs and sauna and if you wish why not a relaxation massage.

We start on the outskirts of Barraco by pedaling up to the pampita, about 200 meters away. We enter the native forest to cross a narrow path, surrounded by coihues, elms and arrayanes.

We head north, where we reach the Barraco trail, turning west, where we begin a deep descent of approximately 500 meters until we reach the gate of the north garden of the lodge. Once there, we can begin a second circuit or detour to the Barraco waterfall trail, on a gentle descent to the banks of the Barraco River. Here, we follow a winding path along the river bank, to reach the waterfall pool where a relaxing bath awaits us.

A short but steep path will take us back to the lodge.

We cross the Tagua Tagua lake in our support boat, carrying the Duckies (for two people each).

We will board the Duckies in Puerto Maldonado, from here we will begin our adventure paddling down the Puelo River. After
passing the river’s influx into the Tagua Tagua lake, we arrive at the base of La Cascada. We continue our journey choosing the most favorable lake shore.

We stop at midday to enjoy a healthy meal on the beach. Then we continue our journey arriving at our dock on the lake. At any time we can board the safety boat and return to the lodge if conditions become unpleasant or if you feel tired.

We begin our journey from the Barraco Lodge pier, sailing gently across the calm TaguaTagua Lake. The approximately 2.5 kilometer journey allows us to enjoy the impressive landscape, surrounded by mountains and native forest, where we can observe coihues, elms and arrayanes that rise majestically along the coast.

We head east, following the waters of the lake, until we reach the beautiful «Velo de la Novia» waterfall. As we get closer, the sound of the falling water invites us to relax and enjoy this hidden corner of nature.

The boat ride is designed to be low impact, allowing an intimate connection with the environment without interfering with its tranquility. After enjoying the view of the waterfall, we can return to the lodge following the same route, enjoying the spectacular views and calm of the lake.

We will navigate through different areas of the Puelo River in our jet boat (two fishermen, one guide), looking for the best place to fish. You can do this during the morning, returning to the Lodge for lunch and going out again after lunch, or have lunch on the riverbank with your guide and enjoy the whole day of the best fishing.

Upon your return to the lodge, enjoy a delicious meal in our Quincho and relax in the Hottub or Sauna.

SUP or kayaking on Lake Victoria allows you to enjoy calm waters surrounded by lush nature. Going down the lake we leave the Quitacalzones River, a tributary on the northern coast of the lake, to starboard. For safety reasons, a boat will accompany us at all times.

This lake allows us to navigate with strong crosswinds due to the protection it offers from the north wind. Going down the lake We will reach the Salto Strait, a level 3 rapid of great scenic beauty. From there we return to the lodge by boat.

We take off by helicopter from the Lodge on a 20-minute flight to reach the Junta area in Cochamo. From this place the trekking begins in a south-westerly direction, bordering the Cochamo River. We will cross the river by a trunk that serves as a natural bridge to enter the evergreen forest. During the first stage of this trekking we see waterfalls and enter the deep forest of Coihues, Canelos, Mañios, Alerces, Quilas and Lengas. After 3 hours of walking, we leave the forest behind and the magnificent amphitheater appears, a vertical circular granite wall 700 meters high.

Here begins the most demanding part of the walk where we lose the trail and begin to follow the bed of a stream, avoiding large rocks that cross the stream in some sections passing through roots and fallen trees. At the end of the hike, we will enjoy an amazing view at the base of the huge granite wall, the helicopter will pick us up to fly back passing by the iconic peaks of Trinidad and El Monstruo.

On this excursion, we prepare to leave the Lodge early and take a 30-minute flight in our helicopter to the start of the trek, which is located in the La Junta sector in the Cochamó Valley.

Once on land, we begin the trek to Cerro Arcoíris. To reach the first viewpoint of this hill, you must travel 3.6 km from La Junta, reaching a height of 1210 meters above sea level. This trail has a constant slope, which makes it a more demanding trek. During the tour, you will
walk through the native forest of the Cochamó Valley, where trees such as Alerce, Coihue and Arrayán predominate. Along the way there will be areas where you will have to use ropes to get through. At the first viewpoint, you will be able to see the Cochamó Valley in its entirety.

From the first viewpoint, we continue 600 meters further to reach the second viewpoint, where we can see the Reloncaví Estuary, the Yates Volcano and the Osorno Volcano. In the last stretch to reach the third viewpoint and summit of Arcoíris Hill (1,676 meters above sea level), we travel one kilometer to reach the summit. On this route, we must access the southwest ridge of the massif, where there will be some climbing steps that can be passed without any problem. Once at the top, we can enjoy the view of the three volcanoes, Osorno Volcano, Yates Volcano and Tronador Volcano, and it is there that our pilot will be waiting to take us back to the Lodge. In total, we will have traveled 5.8 kilometers with a difference in altitude of 1,308 meters.

Tagua Tagua Park is located in a portion of the Patagonian Andes where forest, water and mountains interact as part of an endless cycle of life. The geographical features have allowed this valley to remain untouched over the years, where its natural barriers, Tagua Tagua Lake at its bottom, and granite peaks on the other, have protected this beautiful place from human intervention. Tagua-Tagua Park has a network of trails, covering a total of 18 kilometers. Its layout was designed to minimize the impact of visitors. This park has 3000 hectares of native forest dedicated to conservation. There are two shelters in this park: the Alerces and Quetrus shelters. To access the Alerces shelter, you must walk 6.5 km in approximately 4 hours, reaching a height of 535 meters above sea level. Special mention deserves its view of a forest of sunken larches, which simply captivates those who enjoy it. To get to the Quetrus refuge you must walk for approximately 5.5 hours, covering a total of 10 kilometers.

This refuge has a beautiful view of the granite mountains, all surrounded by beautiful larches. For your hike, you have different options:

  1. Option 1: Trekking Tagua Tagua park: entrance / exit by boat, we arrive at Tagua Parque de Tagua by boat. We can walk until we reach the Alerce refuge or the Quetrus . Then we walk back to the park entrance where we return to the lodge by boat.
  2. Option 2: Trekking Tagua Tagua Park In / Out by helicopter from Quetrus Camp.
  3. Option 3: Trekking Tagua Tagua Park: Entrance or exit by Helicopter. We arrive by boat to the park and the helicopter will pick us up at the helipad of the Quetrus refuge, to take us back to the Lodge . We arrived by helicopter to Quetrus Heliport and walked down to the park entrance, to Tagua Tagua Lake to return by boat to the Lodge.
