INTERVIEW WITH Caro Emhart of Auralta Hotels & Retreats

We are building a collection of retreats in extraordinary locations, always with a deep respect for the environment.

Auralta Hotels & Retreats
Founder: Caro Emhart
Opening: November 2026
Location: Rio Celeste, Costa Rica and Torres del Paine, Chile

  1. Who are the founders and how did Auralta Hotels come about?
We are Caro Emhart and Tito Gana, two travel enthusiasts who share the same conviction: that the best way to experience the world is by being completely honest with it. The Auralta Hotels & Retreats collection was born out of a shared dissatisfaction. Traveling to incredible destinations, we repeatedly encountered options that offered everything pre-packaged, but deprived you of something fundamental: the freedom to choose, to be surprised, to truly connect with the place you are in. We wanted to create havens for a different kind of traveler, one who wants to explore, who values authenticity over luxury, and who prefers to pay for what they will truly experience and enjoy. This is how two retreats were born at opposite ends of the world: one facing the Paine Massif in Chilean Patagonia, and the other in the heart of the Costa Rican rainforest, next to the Río Celeste.
  2. What is the most memorable experience you offer your guests?
There isn’t a single highlight, because at Auralta Hotels & Retreats we believe that the most powerful experience is the sum of small, genuine things: the silence before the Paine Massif as it changes color at sunset, a conversation around the fire with other travelers who share the same spirit of exploration, cuisine that tastes of the land itself, not a generic menu. Our client is a worldly traveler, someone who has explored, who knows how to discern, and who arrives seeking presence, not perfection. They leave with something they didn’t expect: the feeling of having truly been in a place, not just having seen it. That’s what sets us apart from other offerings: we don’t sell a package, we offer a rhythm, a different kind of luxury.
  3. What is Auralta’s long-term vision?
We want to build a brand, a collection that is synonymous with honest travel in Latin America. Two retreats are the starting point: Patagonia and the Costa Rican rainforest are opposite poles that demonstrate that our approach to hospitality works in any ecosystem. The path we envision is a growing collection of retreats in extraordinary locations, always with a deep respect for the environment, integrated with local communities, and designed for the conscious traveler. The legacy we seek is not one of size, but of impact: that every person who stays at Auralta leaves with a different relationship with nature and with themselves. What do you dream a guest will say upon leaving? “I don’t want to leave this place.” “Where can I find another hotel like this to visit?” “What a luxurious few days we had!” Not in the sense of a spa break, but something deeper: the feeling of having regained perspective, of feeling small in the face of something immense and having enjoyed it. That they leave wanting to return, yes, but above all, wanting to continue exploring the world with that same perspective.
  4. What motivated you to be part of the Elohi Collection?
Elohi represents exactly the kind of community we wanted to be part of: projects that share a travel ethic, a sensitivity to the land, and a commitment to authenticity. We weren’t just looking for visibility; we were looking for belonging. Being part of Elohi allows us to engage in dialogue with other hoteliers who think like us, learn from their experiences, and reach travelers who are already looking for exactly what we offer. It’s a collection that gives context and credibility to what we’ve built, and for a young brand like Auralta, that’s a huge endorsement.
